“The What, How, Where, When, Which and Why of Long-Tail Keyword Research…”
Long-tail keyword research is one of my least favourite terms in the field of search marketing as
it does not to my mind describe adequately what it actually is. In any event, I have decided to break cover with my own personal method of mining long-tail keywords,in a way that is also extremely kind to the search engines, while at the same time being ruthlessly efficient.
Firstly, let’s narrow down what is actually meant by “Long-tail keywords” - All it is describing is
the principle by which searchers become much more specific when searching when they have formulated
a clear idea as to what it they are looking for.
What’s more, the fact that their queries are so targeted means that they are much more likely to
convert if marketers can match their product with a searchers aspiration.
Now, in the context of finding specific long tail keyword phrases, I have a method which works very
well for me, giving me plenty of things to write about on specific topics which in many cases have
absolutely no competition in Google.
I call it the “What, How, Where, When, Which and Why” of keyword research and using keyword tools
all I do is simply start with a very large generic list and then using filters, I match the
generic word with a “What, How, Where, When, Which and Why” and that then niches the generic term
into dozens of targeted long tail keyword phrases - many of them with absolutely no competition at all.
I have put together a video showing you how to work with long-tail keywords.
